Many people have an idea of what they want to receive in counseling. Others may not have a clear understanding of how counseling can help in their challenge or struggle. In either case, concerns and questions will be thoroughly addressed as well as the counseling approach, duration of counseling and financial matters. Counseling begins with an initial session where the individual, couple or family shares general information about their life, family, work, interests, etc. and the reason for seeking help.
The first counseling session will help the counselor understand where a client has been, where they are in the present, and where they sense they need to be in the future. In other words, why are you seeking counseling, and how can counseling help you integrate and make peace with your past while moving toward the future you're looking for.
Counseling approaches vary and are centered on the needs and requests of client(s). The old saying "one size fits all" doesn't work in the complexities and uniqueness of individuals, couples, and families. While there is no set number of sessions, the average duration may be between three to twelve sessions.
The confidentiality of every client is paramount. We do not release the names or any information about our clients without written permission, or as required by law. If you have questions about confidentiality please don’t hesitate to inquire.
